Why not plan some entries for some photo contests next year? We take a look at 5 upcoming contests that are worth noting in the diary…

World Press Photo Contest
Are you a budding photojournalist? The 2014 World Press Photo Contest will be open for participants to enter their work from the beginning of December 2013. The deadline for submissions will be 15 January 2014. Entries may only be submitted online via the World Press Photo entry website.

Leica Oskar Barnack Award
Are you a pro photographer “whose unerring powers of observation capture and express the relationship between man and the environment”? Then this one’s for you. The Leica Oskar Barnack Award has been announced annually since the year 1979. Entries (professional photographers only) for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2014 are accepted as online submissions between 15 December and 31 January 2014.

The Open
The Open is a worldwide search for the most inspiring photographers of our generation. True to its name, The Open welcomes all photographers. It is a search across six continents with a simple mission: discover the undiscovered; rediscover the established; bring the best photographers to the forefront. The deadline for THE OPEN is Friday February 28, 2014 11:59:59pm (8:00 GMT).

The PDN Photo Annual
With a wide variety of categories, the PDN Photo Annual refers to itself as the ‘#1 photo competition of the year’. Be sure to submit your shots before January 29th, 2014, although the lazy or forgetful can pay a fine for a late entry.

The PDN Edu Student Photo Contest
Are you a hungry student looking to make a name for yourself? Well then this one is for you. The deadline is December 7, so you better hurry and get your entries in.
